Job summary

Ahoskie House in North Carolina is seeking an experienced Cook to prepare nutritious meals for residents and support daily dining operations.

You will work with the Dietary Manager to ensure tasty, safe meals that meet dietary requirements, while keeping a clean, organized kitchen and providing excellent resident service. Prior cooking experience and a passion for elder care are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring nutrition, taste, and dietary needs.
  • Meal Service: Serve meals promptly with high quality, portion control, and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and sanitary, following safety procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff; assist in training new staff.
  • Inventory Control: Help track supplies and report shortages or needs.
  • Resident Engagement: Accommodate dietary requests and resident preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring food is nutritious, appetizing, and prepared according to dietary requirements and resident preferences.
  • Meal Service: Ensure meals are served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality, portion control, and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment by following food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper storage and handling of food supplies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and quality service. Assist in training new kitchen staff as needed.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and help track food supplies. Report shortages or order needs to the Dietary Manager.
  • Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ food preferences, ensuring satisfaction with meals served.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including safe food handling and proper sanitation practices.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Previous cooking experience in a senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
  • Ability to follow recipes and meal plans
