Job summary

Bethesda Home of Aberdeen is seeking a full-time cook to prepare meals per planned menus, ensuring quality and appearance while complying with sanitary policies. Training is provided; prior experience is not required.

The role supports resident meals, coordinates with the facility dietitian, stocks supplies, and helps maintain clean, organized kitchen operations on a shift from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with every-other weekend/holiday rotation.

  • Education: High School education or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Review menus prior to preparation of food.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare short order items as requested.
  • Prepare food in sanitary regulations, as well as with our established policies and procedures
  • Complete prep work and stocking to acceptable levels.
  • Utilize production sheets and recipes for cold food inventory.
  • Rotate and date cold stock each morning.
  • Prepare meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  • Plate and garnish in an attractive manner.
  • Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.
  • Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.
  • Inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is being served.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary.
  • Assist to ensure that department personnel, residents, visitors, etc., follow established culinary policies and procedures.
  • Work with the facility dietitian as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
  • Ensure appropriate quality and quantity of food served.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
  • Assume responsibility to supervise culinary personnel in absence of Director of Culinary Services.
  • Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for culinary services activities to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Coordinate culinary service with other departments as necessary.
  • Report complaints and grievances to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Date and store left over food according to policy and procedures.
  • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
  • Ensure that food storage areas are clean and properly arranged at all times.
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned work areas to assure that cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Report discrepancies to the Director of Culinary Services.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Starting Pay: $16.20/hour; wage dependent on experience
