Job summary

STS Aerospace in Laconia, NH is seeking a Convolutor Trainee to set up and operate the tube convolution testing machine for rotating metal workpieces. The position covers both first and second shifts with a $1.00 per hour shift differential on the second shift, and requires a one-year certificate or related training/experience.

Strong attention to detail and safety are essential. You will load tubing, operate mandrels, inspect parts to PS 499, monitor hydraulic forming, and document processes.

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate tube convolution testing machine including external cylindrical and tapered surfaces of rotating metal workpieces such as tool, die, and machine parts.
  • Load tubing onto forming and compression mandrels and inspect to PS 499 using a shadowgraph and wall thickness gauge.
  • Monitor hydraulic forming pressure while machine is running and ensure dimensional compliance.
  • Trim hose, swage hose ends, and perform end finishes to PS499 specifications.
  • Perform regular tool care and maintain tooling inventory and safety in a clean working area.

Education

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

STS Aerospace in Laconia, NH is searching for a Convolutor Trainee to join the team. This position is responsible for Set up and operation of the tube convolution testing machine including external cylindrical and tapered surfaces of rotating metal workpieces such as tool, die, and machine parts by performing the following duties. 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:45AM - 3:15PM

2nd Shift: Monday - Thursday, 3:15PM - 1:45AM with $1.00 Shift Differential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select and install brass seals, nylon dies, forming dies/mandrels and compression dies/mandrels.
  • Load tubing onto forming and compression mandrels.
  • Select, operate and adjust computer controlled programs through a touch screen interface to remove die and crimp marks.
  • Trim hose using a pipe cutter.
  • Select sample tooling, section hose samples and inspect to PS 499 using a shadowgraph and wall thickness gauge.
  • Monitor hydraulic forming pressure while machine is running.
  • Measure hose using a micrometer and calipers; then adjust as required for dimensional compliance.
  • Compress formed hose to appropriate PS 499 compression templates.
  • Select pressure test tooling and test compressed hose.
  • Track footage of used tubing and completed hose.
  • Complete documentation as instructed.
  • Store incoming tube.
  • Tool care, monitor tooling condition and maintain appropriate level of spare tooling.
  • Check valves, pumps, intensifer and other hydraulic components for leaks.
  • Inspect and clean area to ensure it is kept safe and orderly.
  • Use band saw to trim cut hose ends.
  • Select appropriate size mandrel, mount in three jaw chuck and operate flatten out hose ends on a mandrel.
  • Swage hose ends to required size specified in PS499 and use collar to test for fit.
  • Square cut hose ends.
  • Select and install proper compression tooling; then compress the convoluted hose to appropriate PS499 compression template using the manual compression unit.
  • Select proper pressure test tooling and test finished hose sections in tank.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
