Job summary

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City is seeking an Assistant State’s Attorney to work in the Conviction Integrity Unit at 120 E. Baltimore Street.

The CIU handles a broad range of post-trial matters including expungements, Gibson hearings, petitions for writ of actual innocence, and other post-trial issues. This non-supervisory, full-time hybrid role requires a Maryland bar license and a Juris Doctor degree.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree and current Maryland bar license.
  • Highly organized, able to work independently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Prior felony criminal jury trial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and handle post-trial matters on collateral dockets for all circuit judges.
  • Identify and obtain relevant materials for collateral cases.
  • Contact victims and witnesses as needed.
  • Prepare written post-trial responses.
  • Engage in peer-to-peer case reviews.
  • Attend CIU staff meetings.
  • Conduct legal research.

Job description

The Office is seeking an Assistant State’s Attorney to work in the Conviction Integrity Unit at 120 E. Baltimore Street. The Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) is comprised of sub-units including a Conviction Integrity Program (CIP) sub-unit.

Job Description

The objective of the CIU is to handle a vast range of post-trial matters including, but not limited to, violations of probation, expungements, Gibson hearings, petitions for writ of actual innocence, and other post-trial matters. This position is non-supervisory.

Required duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • preparing and handling certain post-trial matters on the collateral dockets of all thirty-five circuit court judges
  • identifying and obtaining relevant materials to handle collateral cases
  • contacting victims and witnesses as needed
  • preparing written post-trial responses
  • engaging in peer-to-peer case reviews
  • attending regular CIU staff meetings
  • conducting legal research
Requirements

Candidate must possess a juris doctor degree and be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a team player and possess the ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment. Prior felony criminal jury trial experience is preferred.

This is a full-time hybrid position. This position is a local government public service position which may qualify for Federal Student Aid Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Salary range

$83,530 - $133,471, commensurate with experience
