Job summary

ERMC Aviation seeks a Conveyor Technician to serve as the first responder to alarms and operational tasks at our Houston location. The role focuses on repairing and maintaining baggage conveyor systems and related electro-mechanical / laser recognition equipment with minimal downtime.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, dismantling for parts, inspecting components, and performing preventive and emergency maintenance.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

• Must be able to obtain and keep an airport security badge.
• Must have or obtain reliable transportation.
• Able to work in extreme conditions (hot/cold) and tight spaces.
• Able to pass criminal background checks and security clearances.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain machinery and baggage handling equipment following diagrams and manuals.
• Dismantle devices to access defective parts using hoists, hand tools, and power tools.
• Inspect parts with calipers/micrometers to verify dimensional accuracy.
• Adjust and replace defective parts; lubricate and clean equipment.
• Repair electrical and control systems; perform preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance.
• Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE; report safety concerns.

Job description

The Conveyor Technician is the first responder to all alarms and is primarily responsible for any operational tasks required by location. This position is responsible for repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment and electro-mechanical/laser recognition systems used in baggage conveyor systems and other day to day activities with minimum of equipment down time. Previous conveyor experience is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain machinery & mechanical equipment such as motors, pneumatic devices, electro-mechanical / laser recognition systems, baggage handling equipment and conveyor systems in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operational manuals and manufacturer's specifications using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Observe devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate and diagnose causes of trouble -Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists or other lifting devices, hand tools and power tools.
• Examines form and tester of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine chances in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, level, plumb bobs and straightedges -Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools and power tools.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices using hand tools -Lubricate and clean parts as well as provides manufacturer recommended maintenance to keep equipment running smoothly.
• Repairs electrical systems, including control systems.
• Performs preventive, corrective, predictive and emergency maintenance, may require 24-hour availability for emergency response / support -May use cutting, brazing or welding equipment to repair sheet metal facings on conveyor systems or other such metal work.
• Must be regular in attendance at work location during scheduled work hours.
• Must comply with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
• Must comply with all personal and protective equipment requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• First responder to various system alarms including Bag Jams, motor overloads, bag tracking faults, etc.
• Cleaning of shop, control room and BHS assets.
• Realignment of baggage on the BHS.
• Monitor and use system overview screen (HMI) to detect problems.
• Follow directives of BHS Manager or Team Lead on special assignments / projects.
• Assist in repairs of BHS and its components as directed team Leader or BHS Manager to develop mechanical / electrical skills which will provide opportunity for a quality BHS performance and personal advancement.
• Take care and use of company hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various tasks.
• Promote a safe working environment by following safety procedures. Identify safety concerns, stop work if safety to self or others is in jeopardy.
• Alert team lead or manager of safety problems.
• Maintain a positive helpful attitude and work in a team environment.
• Report directly to the team lead or BHS Manager.
• Cultivate good working relationship with customers.
• Treat co-workers and customers with respect and dignity.
• Other responsibilities and tasks as directed by the BHS Manager.
