Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Limited in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead converting-automation projects from concept to commissioning. You will collaborate with project managers, fabrication teams, and plant personnel to deliver safe, compliant automation solutions using Cobots/Robots, AMRs, and vision systems.

The role requires hands-on engineering and deployment experience across unwinding, splicing, winding, coating, and related processes, plus strong integration with plant IT

Qualifications

• Possess good Experience in Engineering Converting Automation Solutions like Roll loading automation, Auto-splicing, Buffering, Web Tension Control, material replenishment, inspection etc.
• Well versed with Robots/Cobots, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), AGV / Vision System etc.
• Hands on experience in application engineering and deployment of Converting line Automation Solutions using AGVs/AMRs/Cobots / Vision Systems.
• Knowledge on Advanced Robotics Technologies like Haptics, Teleoperation, Human-Robot Collaboration, Voice Commanding of Robots, Exoskeletons, ROS, AMR/AGV Fleet Manager.
• Converting Domain Knowledge across unwinding, splicing, web conveying, slitting, coating, curing, winding, cutting & packaging.
• Lean manufacturing concepts, value stream mapping and continuous improvement focus.
• Advanced Modeling and Simulation inputs and interpretation for Design decisions.
• Understanding of Controls Engineering / Plant IT Systems / SAP integration needs.
• Drives results consistently, even under tough circumstances.
• Facilitating Equipment/Capital Procurement meeting customer specs and program needs.
• Managing Installation & Commissioning with Contractors.

Responsibilities

• Designing Automation Solutions from concept through plant commissioning.
• Work with project managers, fabrication teams, and plant personnel.
• Implementing design solutions meeting safety and regulatory requirements.
• Defining scope, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Active project management to meet commitments on scope, cost and schedules.
• Collaborate with OEM suppliers in US, Europe & India for conveyors, sensors, robots, AMRs, cobots.
• Track overall project status.
• Coordinate with Plant IT as required.
• Schedule weekly calls with Customer, suppliers & offshore team.
• Support installation/commissioning and final handover at site.
• Identify new opportunities across plant areas and propose solutions.
• Provide technical support post-deployment (troubleshooting, snag rectification).

Job description

Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

• 1. Possess good Experience in Engineering Converting Automation Solutions like Roll loading automation, Auto-splicing, Buffering, Web Tension Control, material replenishment, inspection etc.
• 2. Well versed with associated Technologies like Robots/Cobots, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), AGV / Vision System etc.
• 3. Hands on experience in application engineering as well as development and deployment of Converting line Automation Solutions that are custom engineered or leveraging AGVs/AMRs/Cobots / Vision Systems etc.
• 4. Knowledge on Advanced Robotics Technologies like Haptics, Teleoperation, Human-Robot Collaboration, Voice Commanding of Robots, Exoskeletons, Robotic Operating System, AMR / AGV Fleet Manager etc
• 5. Converting Domain Knowledge - Good understanding of the processes like unwinding, splicing, web conveying, slitting, coating, curing, winding, cutting & packaging (Primary / Secondary / Tertiary)
• 6. Knowledge on lean manufacturing concept, value stream mapping and focus on continuous improvement.
• 7. Knowledge on Advanced Modeling and Simulation to the extent of providing the right inputs to the Modeling and Simulation SMEs, providing inputs on various What-If Scenarios, Ability to interpret the Simulation Results and take corrective action in the Design
• 8. Understanding of Controls Engineering / Plant IT Systems / Enterprise systems like SAP to the extent of the integration requirements.
• 9. Drives results - Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances.
• 10. Facilitating Equipment/Capital Procurement - Selects appropriate Robot equipment & associated systems (like Conveyor, Sensors, PLC, HMI etc.) which meets the Customer manufacturing specifications and meets program needs.
• 11. Managing Installation & Commissioning collaborating with Installation & Commissioning contractors

Roles & Responsibilities

• 1.Responsible for
  • oDesigning Automation Solutions from initial concept through plant commissioning
  • oworking closely with project managers, fabrication teams, and plant personnel.
  • oImplementing design solutions that meet stringent safety requirements established by customer and applicable regulatory bodies.
  • oClearly defining scope, cost estimates, schedules
  • oActive project management to meet the commitments on scope, cost and schedules
• 2.Work closely with identified OEM suppliers based out of US, Europe & India for the supply of automation systems like conveyors, sensors, alarm systems, Robots, AMRs, COBOTs etc.
• 3.Track the overall project status.
• 4.Work closely with Plant IT wherever required
• 5.Organize & Schedules weekly calls with Customer, suppliers & TCS Offshore team
• 6.Manage & Support Installation / Commissioning and final handover at Customer site
• 7.Study new opportunities across various areas within the plant and propose solutions proactively (may need to visit other sites).
• 8.Provide technical support to customer technicians/ engineers after the successful deployment of the solution like trouble shooting, snag rectification etc.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000 per year
