Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to design and deploy converting line solutions across the US. You will work with robots, cobots, AMRs/AGVs and vision systems to meet customer specifications and regulatory safety requirements.

You will lead projects from concept through commissioning, coordinating with project managers, fabrication teams and plant personnel. The role emphasizes global supplier collaboration and hands-on deployment at customer sites.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering converting automation solutions including roll loading, auto-splicing, buffering, web tension control, material replenishment and inspection.
• Proficient with robots/cobots, AMRs, AGVs and vision systems within conversion lines.
• Hands-on experience in design, development and deployment of converting line automation solutions, including integration with AMRs/ cobots and vision systems.
• Knowledge of advanced robotics technologies (haptics, teleoperation, human–robot collaboration, voice commanding of robots, exoskeletons, ROS, AMR/AGV fleet management).
• Understanding of converting processes (unwinding, splicing, web conveying, slitting, coating, curing, winding, cutting and packaging).
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing, value stream mapping and continuous improvement.
• Understanding of controls engineering, plant IT systems and SAP integration.

Responsibilities

• Design automation solutions from concept through plant commissioning.
• Collaborate with project managers, fabrication teams and plant personnel.
• Implement design solutions that meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide scope, cost estimates and scheduling; manage project commitments.
• Coordinate with OEM suppliers in US, Europe and India for automation systems.
• Track project status and manage installation, commissioning and handover.
• Identify opportunities within the plant and propose proactive solutions.
• Support customer technicians post-deployment for troubleshooting and snag rectification.

• Possess good Experience in Engineering Converting Automation Solutions like Roll loading automation, Auto-splicing, Buffering, Web Tension Control, material replenishment, inspection etc.
• Well versed with associated Technologies like Robots/Cobots, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), AGV / Vision System etc.
• Hands on experience in application engineering as well as development and deployment of Converting line Automation Solutions that are custom engineered or leveraging AGVs/AMRs/Cobots / Vision Systems etc.
• Knowledge on Advanced Robotics Technologies like Haptics, Teleoperation, Human-Robot Collaboration, Voice Commanding of Robots, Exoskeletons, Robotic Operating System, AMR / AGV Fleet Manager etc
• Converting Domain Knowledge – Good understanding of the processes like unwinding, splicing, web conveying, slitting, coating, curing, winding, cutting & packaging (Primary / Secondary / Tertiary)
• Knowledge on lean manufacturing concept, value stream mapping and focus on continuous improvement.
• Knowledge on Advanced Modeling and Simulation to the extent of providing the right inputs to the Modeling and Simulation SMEs, providing inputs on various What-If Scenarios, Ability to interpret the Simulation Results and take corrective action in the Design
• Understanding of Controls Engineering / Plant IT Systems / Enterprise systems like SAP to the extent of the integration requirements.
• Drives results - Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances.
• Facilitating Equipment/Capital Procurement - Selects appropriate Robot equipment & associated systems (like Conveyor, Sensors, PLC, HMI etc.) which meets the Customer manufacturing specifications and meets program needs.
• Managing Installation & Commissioning collaborating with Installation & Commissioning contractors

Roles & Responsibilities

• Responsible for
• Designing Automation Solutions from initial concept through plant commissioning
• working closely with project managers, fabrication teams, and plant personnel.
• Implementing design solutions that meet stringent safety requirements established by customer and applicable regulatory bodies.
• Clearly defining scope, cost estimates, schedules
• Active project management to meet the commitments on scope, cost and schedules
• Work closely with identified OEM suppliers based out of US, Europe & India for the supply of automation systems like conveyors, sensors, alarm systems, Robots, AMRs, COBOTs etc.
• Track the overall project status.
• Work closely with Plant IT wherever required
• Organize & Schedules weekly calls with Customer, suppliers & TCS Offshore team
• Manage & Support Installation / Commissioning and final handover at Customer site
• Study new opportunities across various areas within the plant and propose solutions proactively (may need to visit other sites).
• Provide technical support to customer technicians/ engineers after the successful deployment of the solution like trouble shooting, snag rectification etc.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000 per year
