ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions is seeking a skilled operator to modify metal doors and frames to customer specifications. You will perform welding, drilling, cutting, and hardware installations with attention to detail and the ability to work independently or with supervision as needed.

The role requires strong technical ability, experience in conversion or metal fabrication, and the stamina to handle 12-hour shifts and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in metal fabrication or conversion preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
  • Proficiency with welding, grinding, cutting, and installing hardware.
  • Comfort with shop math for measuring and dimensions.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain safety protocols and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

  • Cut slots, drill holes, countersink and tap for hardware installation.
  • Operate MIG welder to fabricate reinforcements and grind as required.
  • Install trim kits, louvers, glazing beads and other accessories.
  • Resize doors or frames according to specifications.
  • Use templates and gauges for precise modifications.
  • Repair or rework materials not meeting specifications.
  • Fabricate/install custom reinforcements as directed.
  • Apply fire labels as directed.
  • Work from drawings or blueprints.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Follow safety protocols and PPE.

The Conversion Operator performs specialized hardware preparation and modification of metal doors and frames to meet customer and engineering specifications. This includes welding, drilling, cutting, and the installation of reinforcements and hardware. The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively under general supervision.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet expectations of each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

Experience:
  • Prior experience in conversion or metal fabrication preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of door and/or frame construction and hardware applications
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
  • Proficient in the use of tools and equipment including mig welder, grinders, power and hand tools (drill, saw, tape measure, caliper, etc.), milling machine, and powered industrial truck
  • Good working knowledge of shop math, including measuring and calculating dimensions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standard
  • Clear and legible handwriting for documentation
  • Effective communication and collaboration with coworkers and supervisors
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., approximately 30% of the time.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend and perform repetitive tasks for full shifts
  • Ability to work shift up to 12 hours and more than 40 hours per week as scheduled.
Job Duties & Requirements (included but not limited to the following):

  • Use templates, gauges and layout tools to ensure precise modifications
  • Repair or rework materials that do not meet specifications
  • Fabricate and install custom reinforcements as directed
  • Apply fire labels as directed
  • Work from drawings, blueprints or sketches
  • Cut, fit and apply glazing bead to door frame lites.
  • Interact with engineering or supervisory staff as needed
  • Train or assist in training other employees
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all safety protocols and use required PPE
  • And other duties as assigned.
