Job description

Conventional Machinist

As a Conventional Machinist, you will perform moderately complex tasks supporting the repair and maintenance of OEM equipment. Responsibilities include layout, setup, operation, and tool adjustments for manual machine shop equipment.

Your Challenges

  • Require limited supervision; experienced in the trade and capable of performing all work required as an Inside Machinist.
  • Ability to manufacture complex components from stock or modify parts according to drawings.
  • Set up and operate various machines (lathes, mills, grinders, saws) and hand tools; use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.) and record measurements accurately.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, manuals, and technical documents; select proper tooling and manufacturing fixtures.
  • Understand machining characteristics of various materials and apply appropriate feed/speed rates.
  • Machine parts to close tolerances, ensuring first-time quality.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production staff to resolve machining issues.
  • Perform small and large assembly and machine heavy steel components.
  • Apply mechanics, shop mathematics, and machinability knowledge; perform machine maintenance and maintain a clean workspace; report safety issues immediately.
  • Work independently; NDT experience is a plus.

What You Bring

  • US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain DOD security clearance.
  • 5 years of machine shop experience or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a General Machinist.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; machine to tolerances of .0005" where required.
  • Proficiency in lathe, milling, drilling, and machine shop power tools; ability to design and manufacture fixtures and templates; perform layouts; understand GD&T tolerances.
  • Experience operating forklifts, cranes, and slings is a plus.
  • Expected to have or acquire basic hand tools; ability to work overtime and travel up to 25%; valid driver’s license with a clear record.
