PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Responsible for monitoring and trouble-shooting, the District’s Automated Control Systems to ensure they are operating effectively and efficiently. The Controls Technician is the system’s administrator and solely responsible for determining and assigning system levels of access to District personnel as applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurable with Judson ISD insurance carrier, and a good driving record
  • Technical school diploma from a recognized HVAC trade school is preferred
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate ability to monitor, install, test and repair Building Automated Control Systems and other electronic components. Demonstrate working knowledge of National Electric Code and NFPA
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of electronic DDC Controls
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Control Logic Programs and Thermal Graphics
  • Proficient in English (Written and verbal skills)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Demonstrate trouble shooting and repair expertise with the following equipment:
    • Commercial type package units
    • Chilled water systems
    • Reciprocating compressors up to 100 tons or larger
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in HVAC and Electronics along with one (1) year of experience in Building Automated Control Systems

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Monitors the operations of all district control systems relating to mechanical, pneumatic and electrical operations
  • Responsible for all program upgrades
  • Installs, tests, and repairs all automated controls systems and other electronic components.
  • Responsible for programming all HVAC sequences for all campuses/departments
  • Processes and assigns all work orders in accordance to specifications and monitors completion rates
  • Receives service calls and determines and performs immediate diagnostics of control system operations and directs field repairs as warranted by system diagnostics
  • Responsible for assigned vehicle inventory and tools
  • Works with other maintenance personnel in a collaborative manner to ensure best practices, effective communication and achievement of expected outcomes
  • Follows established guidelines for procuring, ordering and purchasing materials
  • Ensures compliance with safe and good housekeeping guidelines within the controls shop.
  • Works extended work hours and/or work weeks as required throughout the year
  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  • Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

  • Shop equipment and tools: Voltage meter, small hand tools, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire-cutters, power saw, drill, sander, light truck or van
  • Truck lift gate and wench.
  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate effectively (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute, analyze, differentiate
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling
  • Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours
  • Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
