Job summary

Ameresco, Inc. is seeking a DDC Controls Installation Technician II to join our Cincinnati operations. This role performs installation, checkout, and basic troubleshooting of Direct Digital Controls systems, building on Level 1 experience.

You will support commissioning, ensure safety, and provide customer-facing service on startup and handover. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in HVAC or building automation, strong low-voltage wiring skills, and familiarity with Niagara or Tridium

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of HVAC, electrical, or building automation installation experience.
• Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, control wiring, and device installation.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
• Hands-on experience with point-to-point checkout and basic system startup.

Responsibilities

• Install DDC control panels, conduit, field devices, sensors, actuators, and network cabling per drawings.
• Checkout installed devices and verify system functionality.
• Assist commissioning and service work; troubleshoot and validate control sequences under supervision.
• Maintain safe, organized job sites compliant with OSHA standards.
• Mentor Level 1 Technicians and support training.
• Update as-built docs and progress reports.

Ameresco is seeking a skilled and motivated DDC Controls Installation Technician II to join our operations team. This is an intermediate role responsible for performing installation, checkout, and basic troubleshooting of Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems. Building on the foundation gained as a level I Technician. This position requires a stronger technical skill set, the ability to work independently on routine tasks, and active contribution to commissioning and service work. The Level 2 Technician ensure that DDC systems are installed to specification, function properly, and support project success while providing a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities

Installation & Wiring

• Install DDC control panels, conduit, field devices, sensors, actuators, and network cabling according to engineered drawings and specifications.
• Perform point-to-point checkout of installed devices and verify system functionality.
• Support commissioning efforts by testing and validating control sequences under supervision of senior staff.
• Ensure job sites are organized, safe, and compliant with company and OSHA standards.
• Mentor Level 1 Technicians, assisting with training and knowledge development.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Diagnose and correct common issues with wiring, devices, and communication networks.
• Assist senior technicians and programmers in resolving system performance issues.
• Use meters, diagnostic tools, and basic software applications to verify system operation.
• Provide customer-facing support during service calls or systems startup.

Documentation & Reporting

• Update and maintain accurate as-built documentation, including redline drawings.
• Submit progress reports, installation checklists, and material usage logs.
• Provide feedback on field conditions and potential design or installation improvements.

Collaboration & Development

• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Senior Technicians to ensure project goals are met.
• Participate in manufacturer and internal training programs to expand technical expertise.
• Develop foundational knowledge of control sequences, system programming, and integration with HVAC equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in HVAC, electrical, or building automation installation.
• Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, control wiring, and device installation.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
• Hands-on experience with point-to-point checkout and basic system startup.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in construction and mechanical environments.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Additional Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, technical school apprenticeship or associate’s degree preferred but will consider equivalent work experience.
• Familiarity with building automation system software (Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent) preferred.
• Familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems, wiring practices, and troubleshooting.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
