Job summary

Amarr, part of ASSA ABLOY, is seeking a Controls Technician I to support PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems in our manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and improve control systems on the shop floor, partnering with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations to reduce downtime and drive reliability.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with an associate degree or technical certification in electronics/mechatronics, and 1–3 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus an associate degree or technical certification in electronics, instrumentation, or mechatronics. A combination of hands-on experience and education can also be considered.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in electrical or maintenance roles.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Experience with motion control systems, VFDs, and servo drives.
• Intermediate proficiency with computers and engineering-related software.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work flexible hours as required to support production and project needs.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment to support safe and reliable production operations.
• Diagnose and resolve controls-related equipment downtime involving PLCs, HMIs, sensors, VFDs, servos, and safety devices.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on control systems and automation equipment.
• Support startup, testing, and validation of repaired or modified equipment.
• Assist with minor programming changes to PLCs and HMIs under the direction of Engineering or Maintenance leadership.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and control documentation.
• Collaborate with Engineering on equipment upgrades, retrofits, and automation projects.
