Job summary

Job description

Position Title

Controls Technician I

Location

Greenville, NC

Job Type

Full Time, Monday through Friday, rotating on‑call; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with evenings and weekends as required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform recurring and non‑recurring controls assignments, including preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Work on SCADA systems at the building level and support higher‑level technicians in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise‑level SCADA systems.
  • Install, set up, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain moderately complex building‑level control systems such as field controller networks, air handling units, terminal units (VAV and CAV), exhaust fans, chillers, boilers, pumps, compressors, energy recovery units, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Investigate and analyze building‑level network controls; verify operations against SOPs; troubleshoot and resolve field controller settings or sequence-of‑operations issues.
  • Run reports to analyze equipment operation and efficiency; participate in inspections and testing of new equipment.
  • Serve as a technical resource in HVAC, SCADA systems, or industrial instrumentation areas.
  • Coordinate with contractors for equipment startup services and with ECU IT and other department technicians on facilities services projects.
  • Prioritize work assignments to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform both preventative and corrective maintenance work orders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Required certifications (none specified by statute).
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Understanding of the refrigeration process used in mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including terminology, safety, and component identification.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycle and associated tools and instrumentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft products and computer use.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as BACnet, LonTalk, and Modbus; networking applications; SCADA systems; Ethernet, TCP‑IP, and IP networks and infrastructure.
  • Experience with Carrier‑IVue, Trane, Tridium, Johnson Controls, Schneider, or Siemens equipment.
  • NICET Industrial Instrumentation Level I Certification is preferred.
Certifications
