Job summary

Sonoco is seeking an Industrial Controls Technician for the Dayton, NJ facility. This role focuses on electrical and PLC maintenance to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

You will document PLC programs, set up drives, and support electronic systems while participating in process improvement and maintenance projects. Requirements include 3–5 years in an industrial setting with strong electrical/PLC skills, familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs and servo drives; Beckhoff knowledge

This individual will use their training and knowledge to perform equipment/process/system maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, make repairs, and identify and implement opportunities for improvement.What you’ll be doing:Must be able to pass electrical skills and safety testing to become a qualified Category 2 worker. Must be capable of performing electrical work on systems up to 480 Volts.As the resident electronic and PLC resource, you will be responsible for:Establishing and maintaining accurate, current and secure documentation of printed logic, PLC programs, drive parameters, electronic files and supporting software.Maintenance, system set-up and selection of supporting hardware.Application evaluation of electronic systems and software.Facilitate electronic and PLC training within the department.Seek out and identify obsolete, unsupported or otherwise deficient systems. Research and identify solutions then report, prepare scope of work and cost estimates to resolve.Actively participate in process improvement, new installation and make ready related to electronic, PLC or mechanical projects.Will function as a maintenance technician as needed, responsible for PM duties, project work and scheduled or breakdown maintenance, when situation dictates.Expected to be a resource on weekends or nights as needed.Work with the site MRO Coordinator concerning inventory management of related electronic spares.We’d love to hear from you if:You will need 3-5 years’ experience within an industrial setting where your focus was heavily with electrical and PLCsYou must have strong electronic and PLC skills, proficient knowledge of AB applications.Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs and Servo drives, Beckhoff PLC knowledge a plus.Proficient understanding of applicable software, program language and printed logicProgramming, capable of writing, re-writing and creating new operating programs.Understanding of current applications and systems, mechanical and electricalProficient computer skills, word processing and software understandingStrong general math skillsSonoco is proud to offer a competitive and robust range of benefits to help eligible employees manage their wellbeing costs.
