Maintenance Controls Technician
12 Hour Night Shift (follows a 2-2-3 rotation)
Job Summary
The Controls Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of the automated plant processes, systems, and manufacturing lines. They must be multi-crafted with a heavy emphasis on software and automated control systems. Their work includes on-line troubleshooting and repair, planned work, continuous improvement, capital projects, maintenance projects, and training of other technicians and plant operators. Their activities are driven by area performance and planned work order requests. Controls Technicians are responsible for identifying, prioritizing, planning, and executing day-to-day activities autonomously.
What are we looking for?
- A motivated, energetic, collaborative problem solver with the ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve site control systems in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
- 4 years' experience in industrial control systems and experience working in a manufacturing environment. Preferred: 2-year degree in a control systems related field in addition to 4 years' experience.
- Experience troubleshooting and modifying programmable controllers (such as PLCs, drives, servos, and other controllers) and working with troubleshooting power systems up to 480 VAC.
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and control systems equipment down to the component level, including 480V electrical power distribution, instrumentation, motor controls, VFDs, Servos, I/O devices/modules, PLCs, HMIs, and control networks.
- Troubleshoot machine breakdowns and malfunctions using control system programs and tools required to troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and VFD/servo systems, including electrical schematics, programming software, meters, and other electrical test equipment.
- Repair, replace, and calibrate electrical sensing devices and instrumentation, including photoelectric, inductive, capacitive, pressure, temperature, weight, and position sensors, as well as flow and analytical instruments.
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and commission electrical control devices such as AC drives, DC drives, Servo Controllers, contactors, motors, breakers, solenoids, power supplies, and indicator lights. Manage PLC/HMI hardware including processors, I/O cards, power supplies, network adapters, operator interfaces, and message displays.
- Manage and troubleshoot control system applications, including PLC programs, HMI applications, SCADA, data collection systems, and MES systems.
- Identify and recommend improvements to enhance plant performance through existing or new control systems. Make program modifications in PLCs, HMIs, and servo controllers to optimize equipment performance.
- Coordinate the electrical preventive maintenance program by scheduling inspections, replacements, and follow-ups to ensure effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate, updated electrical documentation and manage all PLC, Servo, and HMI programs and changes, ensuring accessibility and proper archiving.
