Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Wilmington, NC is seeking a technically skilled professional to develop, install, and optimize control systems for R&D and manufacturing equipment. You will design controls capabilities, support startups, and document processes with engineers and technicians.

Role emphasizes collaboration, strong troubleshooting, and adherence to safety standards. Normal hours are M–F, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with potential off-shift support. Immigration sponsorship not provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial controls, automation, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for schematic development.
  • Ability to read electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical drawings.
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project execution.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with industrial safety standards and electrical codes preferred.

  • Collaborate with design engineers, deployment teams, and manufacturing partners throughout the development process.
  • Support equipment startup, commissioning, and process implementation activities.
  • Develop technical documentation and provide training for new control systems.
  • Document testing results, observations, and project outcomes.
  • Coordinate and support electricians during installations and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues to improve performance.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Performs technical duties and activities within prescribed time frames. Participates in projects that support the development, installation, and improvement of control systems and automation technologies for R&D and manufacturing equipment.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the design, installation, and troubleshooting of control systems for development and manufacturing equipment.
  • Design and implement new controls capabilities, instrumentation, and measurement systems.

  • Support equipment startup, commissioning, and process implementation activities.
  • Develop technical documentation and provide training for new control systems and equipment.

  • Coordinate and support electricians during equipment installations and upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial controls, automation systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for schematic development.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical drawings.
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project execution activities.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with industrial safety standards, electrical codes, and diagnostic testing equipment preferred.
Education and Experience
  • 2-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field preferred.
  • Candidates without a degree should possess 7+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • Experience with industrial controls, electrical systems, automation, or manufacturing equipment preferred.
Work Hours and Schedule
  • Normal working hours are M – F, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Support off-shift activities, equipment startups, and installations as needed.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $58,932.00 - $81,032.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
