Summary

The Controls/Automation Technician is responsible for various tasks including designing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining control systems and automation equipment used in production processes. They work with PLCs, electronic components, and systems to ensure reliable operation and optimize production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Gain a high level of knowledge of production processes.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks (PMs) responsibly.
  • Use CAD software and 3D printers for designing and prototyping.
  • Assist in assembly during new launches and participate in cell development to meet KPIs.
  • Ensure all quality standards are adhered to, maintaining product excellence.
  • Provide automation support during changeovers, breakdowns, and other needs.
  • Work overtime as necessary to meet deadlines and resolve issues.
  • Follow proper start-up and shutdown procedures for equipment safety and efficiency.
  • Complete required safety training such as LOTO and Safe Work Permits.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to discuss layout and assembly procedures, and troubleshoot electronic units.
  • Recommend circuitry or installation changes for easier assembly and maintenance.
  • Plan and implement continuous improvements in equipment, automation, and processes.
  • Analyze test data, calibrate, and modify circuitry, recording performance effects.
  • Write technical reports, develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe system performance and issues.
  • Evaluate system performance of new equipment under actual conditions.
  • Support production needs, including parts manufacturing as requested.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, especially with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Technical skills in controls, automation, tooling, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read complex electrical schematics.
  • Experience with CAD software and 3D printing for design and prototyping.
  • Knowledge of Vision Systems and error-proofing techniques.
  • Familiarity with low voltage electrical systems and safety protocols.
  • Strong collaboration skills across departments.
Education and Experience

Associate's degree or equivalent from a technical college, with 1-3 years of related experience or training. Electrician training and experience with low voltage circuitry are preferred.

Additional Skills
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals.
  • Competency in basic math, geometry, and algebra for technical tasks.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Regular exposure to mechanical parts, electrical shock risks, and moderate noise. Occasionally exposed to heights, chemicals, and vibrations. Physical requirements include standing, lifting, and other manual tasks.

Safety & Compliance

Support health, safety, and environmental policies, report hazards, participate in safety training, and use PPE.

Additional Information

Position is entry-level, full-time, in manufacturing. No supervisory responsibilities. Located in New Hampshire, OH, with opportunities for referrals and notifications about similar roles.
