Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and troubleshoot Building Automation Systems (BAS) across diverse facility types.
• Coordinate BAS installations according to drawings, specs and standards.
• Mount and wire controllers, sensors and panels; test and validate control sequences.
• Program BAS software databases, modify sequences, tune systems.
• Perform point-to-point verification and full-system commissioning.
• Diagnose inputs/outputs, network issues and field device problems.
• Work with BACnet, Modbus, and LON protocols; collaborate with owners and engineers.

Controls Technician – Boston, MA – $38.00/hr to $48.00/hr – Full-Service Mechanical Contractor

About the Opportunity

A long-established and award-winning mechanical and building services contractor is seeking an experienced Controls Technician to support projects throughout the Boston, MA region. This firm delivers high-performance building and energy solutions, specializing in the installation, startup, commissioning, and service of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for healthcare, higher education, pharmaceutical, and commercial facilities.

• Compensation: $38.00/hr – $48.00/hr + Overtime
• Bonus: Year-End Performance & Profitability Bonus
• Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and troubleshoot Building Automation Systems (BAS) across diverse facility types
• Coordinate BAS installations according to engineered drawings, specifications, and project standards
• Mount and wire controllers, sensors, and control panels; test and validate control sequences
• Program and integrate BAS software databases, including custom logic, sequence modifications, and system tuning
• Perform point-to-point verification and full-system commissioning to ensure system integrity and performanceli>
• Diagnose issues with inputs, outputs, network communication, and field devices
• Work with BAS communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and LON
• Collaborate with building owners, GCs, engineers, and end users to support successful project turnover

Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience as a Controls Technician or similar BAS controls role
• Strong proficiency in controls integration, programming, and commissioning practices
• Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals and HVAC equipment operation
• Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic capabilities, and problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented communicator who can work independently and as part of a team
