Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks a Controls Engineer II to design, develop, test, and implement control software for industrial refrigeration and HVAC equipment. You will join a collaborative engineering team delivering advanced controls for chillers, air handlers, and smart building products that optimize cooling and energy efficiency.

Responsibilities include designing and testing control software, applying model-based design principles, and analyzing data to improve performance.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems Engineering or related field; MS preferred
• 4-6 years in controls, automation, embedded systems, or related engineering; MS with experience ok
• Experience developing control algorithms and software using MATLAB/Simulink
• Knowledge of model-based design for embedded systems
• Familiarity with control systems concepts, modeling, simulation, and data analysis
• Experience supporting product development, validation testing, and troubleshooting
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work in a fast-paced team

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and support control software for chillers and air handling units used in data centers, large facilities, and industrial environments
• Develop reliable and maintainable code using MATLAB/Simulink and model-based design for embedded systems
• Apply control theory fundamentals (modeling, simulation, data acquisition) to develop robust control solutions
• Analyze system and test data to support controller development, performance optimization, and product validation
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers throughout product development
• Participate in laboratory and field testing to validate control performance and troubleshoot issues
• Support technical reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes
