Qualifications

• 5+ years of software or industrial systems experience.
• Proficient with C# or VB.NET and scripting languages.
• Experience in SQL database design, development, and management.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Computer Engineer – Industrial Systems & Automation. This position plays a critical role in supporting and modernizing real-time control systems within a steel manufacturing environment. The role blends software engineering, industrial automation, and hands-on plant support to ensure systems reliability, optimize production performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Industrial System Support & Monitoring

o Monitor and maintain real-time control systems to ensure continuous production uptime

o Troubleshoot system issues reported by operators and resolve production-impacting problems

o Perform routine system checks, log reviews, and preventative maintenance activities

o Support daily operations by ensuring all applications and communications are functioning properly

o Design, develop, and maintain applications using C#, VB.NET, and scripting languages

o Integrate systems with PLCs, SCADA platforms, and other industrial devices

o Develop and maintain client/server applications and inter-process communications

o Support implementation of modernization efforts for automation systems

o Maintain and support network communications across industrial systems (TCP/IP, client/server)

o Configure and troubleshoot managed networks within the plant environment

o Ensure reliable communication between software applications, databases, and hardware systems

o Design, develop, and maintain databases (PostgreSQL or SQL Server)

o Support real-time data acquisition, storage, and retrieval for production systems

o Optimize queries and database structures for performance and reliability

• Plant Floor Support & Troubleshooting

o Work directly on the plant floor in an industrial environment (grease, dust, heavy equipment)

o Diagnose and resolve system issues in real time to minimize production downtime

o Collaborate closely with operators to understand issues and improve system performance

o Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and usability

o Research and implement new tools, technologies, and solutions

o Support knowledge sharing and cross-training within the team

o Participate in on-call rotation to support operations outside standard hours

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in software development and/or industrial systems (flexible based on manufacturing experience)

• Experience with programming languages such as C#, VB.NET, or scripting languages

• Strong experience with database design, development, and management (SQL)

• Understanding of network communications (TCP/IP, client/server architecture)

• Experience with or knowledge of PLC systems and industrial automation environments

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in real-time systems

• Ability to work independently and take initiative in resolving technical challenges
