Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a field HVAC technician to perform system commissioning and commissioning documentation on building automation equipment. You will troubleshoot basic HVAC mechanical and electrical issues, respond to warranty calls, and provide customers with effective service solutions.

The role involves calibrating systems, communicating progress to customers and management, and maintaining safety and administrative tasks on site.

Qualifications

• Three-year minimum in electronics, mechanical systems, or HVAC field, or one year servicing HVAC systems.
• General knowledge of HVAC controls systems, site prep, installation, and servicing techniques.
• Good interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally.
• Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

What you will do

• Perform assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
• Respond to basic warranty calls.
• Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items.
• Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing solutions and outcomes at the time of service.

How you will do it

• Load system‑level controller software.
• Perform basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system‑level controllers to end devices (e.g., sensors, actuators) and complete all required commissioning documentation.
• Keep management, the JCI contractor, or the customer informed of job progress and issues.
• Calibrate systems with basic electronic test equipment.
• Complete administrative tasks, including but not limited to timesheets, expense reports, and on‑site documentation.
• Document changes and provide information for as‑built documentation.
• Communicate with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
• Follow all safety standards and attend required safety training, maintaining a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities run efficiently, including upselling opportunities, and provide quotes to support recommendations.

What we look for

• Vocational school four‑year program or associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or a similar field plus three years of industry experience, or one year of experience servicing electronic and/or mechanical HVAC systems.
• General knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.
• Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls to customers and other contacts ethically and professionally.
• Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Leadership skills to support mechanics working on non‑complex, non‑critical building automation equipment on a job site.
• PC experience and ability to program HVAC‑related software.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $22-$28 (The hourly rate will be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and market data alignment). This position includes a competitive benefits package.
