What you will do
  • Under minimal supervision, conduct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and general servicing of systems, including detailed troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for high levels of customer satisfaction through direct on‑site customer interface.
  • Mentor control technicians, service technicians, and mechanical technicians on building automation activities with high technical competence.
  • Complete required project and service documentation.
  • Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing solutions and outcomes at the time of service.
How you will do it
  • Diagnose and repair complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of electronic or digital control systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
  • Consult with the customer through data gathered and site assessments.
  • Provide field proposals for retrofits, upgrades, or enhancements to existing equipment.
  • Assist sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
  • Manage assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction.
  • Report problems or changes to management immediately.
  • Interface with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities.
  • Provide sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings.
  • Assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
  • Communicate with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Support customer training and deliver manuals and documentation.
  • Provide safety leadership and instruction to all controls technicians in the branch, and promote safety awareness when working onsite with subcontractors.
  • Offer mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems.
  • Conduct extensive self‑study to maintain technical proficiency in the company’s product lines.
  • Assist in the design, configuration and commissioning of building control systems as defined by contract documents, including creating flow diagrams, sequence of operations, BOM, network layouts and electrical schematics.
  • Manage project documentation, including as‑built drawings, close‑out documentation, and equipment schedules for submittals.
  • Select, order, and track delivery of materials for assigned projects; coordinate factory‑mounting processes; assist with loading and commissioning of system and network‑level controllers.
  • Validate system functionality and troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades, ensuring proper operation.
  • Provide field change information to the project team for as‑built drawings and software updates.
  • Assist with site‑specific training for owner/operator on building control system.
  • Participate in release meetings with project field team and recommend upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
What we look for

  • Minimum of 4 years of commercial controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry (buildings, chiller plants, and systems).
  • Vocational school program graduate or associate’s degree in a technical field, or two years’ experience servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
  • Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
  • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non‑technical people.
  • Effective writing skills and understanding of programs and software applications.
  • Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.
  • Completion of required certifications as requested by the company.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.83-35.09 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
