Job summary

Beacon Search Group with a manufacturing client in Highland Park, MI seeks a Controls & Robotics Engineer to design, program, integrate, and troubleshoot automated systems. You will work on PLCs, HMIs, and robotics, supporting installation, commissioning, and start-up of new equipment.

Requirements include a B.E./B.S. in a related field and 3+ years of controls/automation experience, plus strong knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and robotics integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; hands-on experience accepted.
• 3+ years in controls, automation, robotics, or related manufacturing.
• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Experience with industrial robotics (FANUC or Universal Robots).
• Knowledge of HMIs, industrial networks, machine vision, sensors and safety systems.
• Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical schematics and documentation.
• Experience with installation, commissioning, startup, and production support.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC-based control systems and HMIs.

• Develop and maintain HMI applications using FactoryTalk.

Beacon Search Group is partnering with a manufacturing client in the Highland Park, MI area seeking an experienced Controls & Robotics Engineer to support the design, programming, integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing systems.

This position combines PLC/controls engineering with industrial robotics, supporting new equipment installations, machine commissioning, production troubleshooting, and automation improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC-based control systems, HMIs, robotics, and automated equipment.
• Program and support Allen-Bradley PLCs, including RSLogix 500/5000 and Studio 5000 platforms.
• Develop and maintain HMI applications using FactoryTalk and related platforms.
• Program, troubleshoot, and integrate industrial robotics, including FANUC and Universal Robots.
• Support installation, I/O checkout, commissioning, system testing, and startup of new equipment.
• Troubleshoot PLC, robotics, electrical, and automation-related downtime and implement corrective actions.
• Integrate and support machine vision/error-proofing systems, including Keyence, Cognex, SICK, IFM, and similar technologies.
• Support industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, and Point I/O.
• Work with safety PLCs, area scanners, light curtains, sensors, motor controls, and other industrial electrical devices.
• Create and maintain electrical schematics, functional specifications, work instructions, and programming documentation.
• Partner with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Safety, and IT on automation upgrades and continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field preferred; equivalent technical education and hands-on experience will be considered.
• 3+ years of controls, automation, robotics, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting industrial robotics, preferably FANUC and/or Universal Robots.
• Working knowledge of HMIs, industrial networks, machine vision, sensors, safety systems, and electrical controls.
• Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Experience with equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and production support.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
