Job description

The Controls Project Engineer - Lead manages and oversees all engineering deliverables vital to execute the project from kick-off through customer acceptance. Partnering closely with the Project Manager, the Controls Project Engineer - Lead translates customer technical requirements into defined tasks for Engineering and ensures those tasks are completed on time, within budget, and with quality. This role identifies and assigns tasks to appropriate teams and coordinates all activities across Dematic departments such as Engineering, CoEs, Software, and third-party providers. This is a multi-disciplinary role reporting dotted line to a Project Manager and solid line to an Engineering leader.

The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $82,875 - $121,550 at posting. Final compensation depends on work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.

Tasks and Qualifications:
What You Will Do In This Role:
  • Translate project contractual technical requirements into deliverables and tasks for engineering teams (design/layout, emulation, order entry, drawings, commissioning).
  • Identify resources across engineering and external suppliers; assign tasks accordingly.
  • Ensure high quality of all deliverables through adherence to standards and processes.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting engineering tasks to prevent project delays.
  • Monitor project and team performance; ensure KPIs are met.
  • Deliver assigned work packages on time and within budget.
  • Act as main contact for project management, installation, procurement, suppliers, and manufacturing regarding engineering deliverables.
  • Ensure specifications for third-party components are complete and accurate, collaborating with ME / CE Leads.
  • Provide solutions development input on project schedule and resource estimates.
  • Align with line managers on engineering resources and performance.
  • Track progress and ensure project pacing; report to stakeholders.
  • Prepare project status reports, financial forecasts, and schedule updates.
  • Support risk management activities, including documentation and escalation of risks.
  • Lead technical reviews and conduct post-mortem analyses for continuous improvement.
What We Are Looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Experience leading project technical deliverables, preferably in material handling.
  • 5+ years in engineering or project management.
  • Strong customer focus and results-oriented approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence in a matrixed global organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%.
