Job summary

PCC Structurals is seeking a Controls Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering team. You will apply your industrial automation expertise to support heavy manufacturing operations, improve equipment reliability, and drive process improvements.

The role emphasizes PLCs, PID control, instrumentation, and a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Fundamental understanding of control systems and automation.
  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and networking.
  • Strong troubleshooting and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with operations, maintenance and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve controls, automation, and process issues in manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations and engineering to improve reliability and safety.
  • Assist with programming and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
  • Tune and optimize PID loops and other process control systems.
  • Diagnose instrumentation, sensors, drives, HMIs, and networking equipment.
  • Contribute to root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain controls documentation, drawings, and procedures.
  • Support capital projects, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and uptime.
  • Promote safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Controls Engineer who is energized by solving problems, learning new technologies, and supporting the people who keep manufacturing operations running. This position is part of the Facilities Engineering team and plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations within a heavy industrial environment. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to improve equipment reliability, resolve technical issues, and implement automation and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting and resolving controls, automation, and process-related issues.
  • Partners with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Assist with programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
  • Support setup, tuning, and optimization of PID control loops and other process control systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving instrumentation, sensors, drives, HMIs, networking, and industrial automation equipment.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action efforts related to equipment downtime or process disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain controls documentation, standards, drawings, and procedures.
  • Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and new system installations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, equipment uptime, and process consistency.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined in CFR 120.62
  • Fundamental understanding of industrial control systems and automation principles.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, instrumentation, and process control systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control systems, instrumentation, and process automation equipment.
  • Exposure to SCADA systems, industrial networking, or manufacturing data systems.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, foundry, metals, aerospace, or other heavy industrial operations.
  • Experience managing or supporting controls-related projects from concept through implementation.
