Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a controls engineer to support plant floor production, including machine controls, vision systems, laser marking, and robotics. You will provide technical direction to maintenance teams and lead design, integration, and trouble shooting of electrical control systems.

The role requires expertise in PLC/HMI programming, fieldbus networks, and experience with major PLC platforms, with a focus on automation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
• 3+ years of controls engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Experience instructing/training manufacturing personnel.
• Proficient in PLC and HMI programming and fieldbus networks.
• Familiar with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and GE PLC platforms.
• Proficient in ladder logic and structured text.
• Experience with Kepware and Cimplicity.
• Familiar with Fanuc CNC and Siemens 840D CNC.
• Knowledge of servo motors, motion control, drives.

Responsibilities

• Provide plant floor production support for machine controls, vision, laser marking, and robotics.
• Provide technical direction to maintenance personnel.
• Design and troubleshoot electrical controls systems.
• Design, construct, integrate, install, launch and improve manufacturing equipment.
• Oversee external vendor work and integration.
• Update and retain controls documentation.
• Collaborate with electricians and leadership of skilled trades.
• Troubleshoot and improve equipment using controls knowledge.
• Handle challenging projects with autonomy and accountability.
• Apply strong knowledge of electrical/control systems in manufacturing.
• Communicate cross-functionally across shifts.

Job description

• The Controls Engineer will be responsible for plant floor production support of machine controls, vision, laser marking and robotics, in a manufacturing environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is required, as well as a high level of independent judgment.
• Provide technical direction to and work with maintenance personnel
• Design and problem-solving/troubleshooting of electrical controls systems
• Design, construction, integration, installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment and tools
• Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources
• Update and retain controls documentation
• Work alongside IUE/CWA electricians and other skilled trades and their leadership
• Use of controls system knowledge to troubleshoot and improve new and existing equipment
• Handle challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
• Apply strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems within a manufacturing environment
• Ability to communicate with peers, cross-functionally, and across shifts

Requirements

• Must be willing to work all shifts
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience as a controls engineer, or automation/controls solving for industrial machinery
• Previous experience in instructing/training individuals in a manufacturing setting
• Strong experience in PLC programming, HMI programming, and fieldbus networks including DeviceNet, ProfiBus, and Ethernet/IP
• Strong Controls System Background with PLC equipment such as Allen-Bradley (Logix5/500/5000, PLC 2, etc.), Siemens (Step 7, TIA Portal) and GE
• Proficient in both ladder logic programming as well as structured text
• Proficient in using middleware/SCADA solutions such as Kepware and Cimplicity
• Familiarity with Fanuc CNC and/or Siemens 840D CNC systems
• Knowledge of servo motors, motion control, drives
• Ability to design and solve electrical controls systems, machine automation controls, and machine safety systems
• Previous experience in a Manufacturing Environment
• General knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
