An experienced Controls Engineer/PLC Programmer with a strong technical understanding of automated equipment engineering and robotics. Required: We care about what you have made run, not the path you took to get there. People who do well here have come from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, industrial maintenance, electrician and controls technician roles, and the military. A bachelor's degree in an engineering field is a plus, not a requirement. Equivalent hands-on experience counts.
Required:
- 3+ years of hands-on PLC programming and troubleshooting in an industrial automation, machine building, or plant maintenance setting
- Working knowledge of at least one of our PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Beckhoff/Codesys, Siemens, Keyence); we will train on the others
- Ability to read and work from electrical schematics
- Comfort with a meter and a laptop on the floor, troubleshooting I/O, sensors, and drives on a live machine
- Able to run a project independently and ask for help when it is bigger than one person
- Willingness to travel for commissioning and startup, approximately 15%
- A plus, not required: UL508A control panel design and panel build experience
- HMI development experience
- VFD and servo commissioning experience
- Fanuc (or other industrial robot) programming
- EtherNet/IP and other industrial network experience
- Background in medical, food, CPG, or cleanroom automation
- Experience with closure lining or stacking equipment
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically to customer sites
- Able to work on the shop floor and at customer sites, including standing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lb
Responsibilities:
- Design and program PLC control systems, primarily in ladder logic (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Beckhoff/Codesys, Siemens, Keyence)
- Develop HMI applications (Keyence VT, FactoryTalk Optix, and similar)
- Program and integrate Fanuc robots into custom work cells
- Commission and tune VFDs and servo motion axes
- Support control panel design, build, and debug with our electrical designers and technicians
- Troubleshoot electrical and controls problems on the floor and at customer sites
- Travel to customer sites for installation, startup, and field support
- Work with mechanical and electrical engineers through the life of a project, and with sales during quoting when needed
- Document control programs and produce operator training material
Pay Range: $85k/yr. - $120k/yr.
