Job summary

Smiths Group plc in North Carolina is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, program, commission, and support industrial control systems and control panels used in manufacturing and automation environments.

You will lead PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and networking solutions across Siemens, Emerson, ABB, and Allen‑Bradley platforms, collaborating with customers, sales, and manufacturing to deliver safe, compliant automation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering.
Hands-on programming and troubleshooting multiple PLC platforms.
HMI/SCADA development and CAD experience (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN).
Electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures.

Responsibilities

Design industrial control panels in accordance with UL 508A, UL698A, NEC and customer standards.
Develop PLC programs across Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Emerson, ABB platforms.
Create and maintain panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs using CAD/EPLAN/ERP tools.
Develop HMI/SCADA applications and process control strategies (PID, sequencing, interlocks).
Perform FAT/SAT and lead commissioning at customer facilities.
