Job summary

First Quality is seeking a Controls Engineer for its Lewistown, PA plastics/packaging site to specify, design and implement complex control systems on production equipment. The role includes training Controls Technicians and coordinating with engineers, maintenance, and OEMs to install and upgrade controls and drive performance improvements.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in electronics/ electrical engineering or related field with at least 1 year of industrial controls experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1 year industrial controls experience.
• Can create and modify schematic drawings using AutoCAD software
• Excellent communication skills.
• Devises and performs tests to identify the root cause of problems.
• Strong mathematical skills with numeric analysis software.
• Advanced knowledge of all PLC based hardware and software.
• Must be knowledgeable on all current controls hardware and software.
• Has excellent PLC programming skills, Motion Control, and HMI programming skills.
• Knowledge of product specifications, quality specifications, goals, efficiency, scrap and production.
• Leadership abilities.
• Directs OEM’s, vendors and technicians to accomplish goals in a timely manner.
• Wide degree of creativity is expected.
• Works well with all departments.

Responsibilities

• Specify, design, and implement complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery.
• Lead/support internal Controls Technicians, Project and Process Engineers, Maintenance & Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, interface, start up new equipment and process controls.
• Assess, design, and modify DCS/PLC/HMI logic to improve equipment and system performance; delegate tasks and oversee others.
• Perform high level troubleshooting and problem solving using internal and external resources.
• Coordinate machine data collection and archiving and assist in data analysis.
• Assist in meeting daily priorities and lead small capital projects.
• Lead controls support during machine installations and upgrades.
• Stay updated on controls technologies, industry trends, and safety standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve production operation performance and drive projects to completion.
• Provide training to production, warehouse, and other personnel on controls equipment.
• Assist in budgeting, project planning, and forecasting.
