Job summary

LiquidPiston is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop, and troubleshoot control systems for next‑generation rotary engines and power systems. You will work across engine, genset, instrumentation, firmware, and test environments to understand behavior and drive solutions on real hardware.

The ideal candidate thrives in a hands‑on R&D setting, with a strong foundation in control theory, embedded software, sensors/actuators, and data‑driven debugging.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in controls engineering or embedded systems.
  • Experience developing or modifying embedded control software.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and system diagrams.
  • Experience with hardware testing and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and troubleshoot control strategies for LiquidPiston engines, gensets, and related power systems.
  • Develop and modify embedded control software and firmware for engine applications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to define and implement control requirements.
  • Analyze engine and system behavior using test data and diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot controls issues on test hardware and identify root causes.
  • Develop control logic for engine operation including starting, speed control, load management, and shutdown strategies.
