Job summary

LiquidPiston, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, troubleshoot, and improve control systems for our rotary engines and power systems.

You’ll work across engine, genset, instrumentation, firmware, and test environments to diagnose issues and implement practical, validated solutions on real hardware. The role involves collaborating with mechanical, performance, technicians, and test engineers to define requirements, implement control logic, analyze data, and validate results on

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
• 3+ years in controls engineering or related areas.
• Experience developing or modifying embedded control software.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and troubleshoot control strategies for engines, gensets, and power systems.
• Develop and modify embedded control software and firmware.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to define control requirements.
• Analyze engine behavior using data, instrumentation, and diagnostics.
• Troubleshoot issues on test hardware and identify root causes.
• Develop control logic for starting, speed control, load management, protection, and shutdowns.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, ECUs, and control hardware.
• Improve control algorithms and state machines.
• Participate in engine testing and testing environment troubleshooting.
• Document strategies, software changes, test results, and decisions.
• Help establish controls development, testing, and troubleshooting processes.
• Contribute to next-generation propulsion and power platforms.
