Job description

Trillium Professional is now seeking a Senior Controls Engineer in Albuquerque, NM.

The Senior Controls Engineer will interact directly with customers, company engineers, and drafters to identify requirements, develop specifications, and implement, test, commission, and qualify electrical solutions. The engineer researches systems ideas and draws up plans for power and control at 480 VAC and below, including instrumentation and control devices.

The engineer is responsible for reviewing and developing system specifications, drawing packages, conducting factory tests as needed, and providing support throughout construction and commissioning, including installation, wiring, check‑out support, and commissioning/qualification. As a Senior Engineer, they may manage a team of engineers, handle overall quality, develop scopes of work and cost estimates, and project manage jobs of various sizes.

Ideally, the candidate is also experienced with PLC or DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, network design, and/or IT/OT equipment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for 480 VAC designs and drawings including motor branch circuits, power distribution and transformation, MCC design and specification, and electrical equipment specification.
  • Responsible for hazardous area design including Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2 code and design requirements.
  • Instrument specification, wiring, troubleshooting, and calibration.
  • Develop schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. This effort includes the ability to architect and specify control system designs and give work direction to technicians creating the drawings.
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state, and local code requirements.
  • Work at customer sites to perform system checkout and start‑up of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Develop the final record system documentation and provide system training to the customer.
  • Work on electrical and control system integration projects for clients across multiple industries including life sciences.
  • Work independently; handle multiple projects simultaneously; may act as Technical Lead or Project Manager.
  • Develop scope of work and cost estimates for deliverables.
  • Develop and execute implementation plans for the project.
  • Assign work to meet overall project deadlines.
  • Ensure project team members clearly understand scope, responsibilities, and deliver quality output.
  • Develop schedules for company and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate progress on projects and details changes.
  • Responsible for all purchasing and subcontractor requirements.
  • Responsible for the development of costs and proposal of change orders to contract scope.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Interest in progressing to a PE license will be supported.
  • 3-8 years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and PLC control panel specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
  • Experience in design of electrical schematics, including power distribution 480 VAC and under.
  • Experience in the installation, checkout, and commissioning of electrical, instruments, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of the NEC and associated national, state and local code requirements, including hazardous area requirements.
  • Familiar with construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
  • Familiar with construction and installation standards and specifications for use by electrical contractors.
  • Document and organize projects using established procedures and software such as CAD, Excel, and Visual Manufacturing.
  • Review of fabricator and external design drawings, documentation, and fabrication sequence.
  • Provide cost estimates for electrical controls according to established guidelines.
  • Monitor status and ensure delivery of project deliverables within budgeted cost and schedule.
  • Experience in industries such as Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food and Beverage, Oil & Gas, and Mining.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to work with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Experience with PLC programming is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is desired.
  • Professional references preferably one from each of the following: a subordinate, a peer, and a manager.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% potentially daily for local client support in the Albuquerque, NM area.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen for this role.

Annual salary is $140,000 per year.
