Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL in Gloucester is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop and support automated machinery worldwide. You will lead PLC, HMI and motion control programming across Rockwell and Siemens platforms and contribute to system integration across global sites.

This role requires travel to customer sites, ensuring safety compliance and delivering robust control solutions with strong documentation and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience in PLC, HMI and motion programming.
• Knowledge of Rockwell Logix platforms and Studio 5000.
• Familiar with Siemens control systems (TIA Portal) advantageous.
• Experience with vision systems (Cognex or similar).
• Willingness to travel internationally.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PLC, HMI and motion programming and modification work.
• Configure networked control systems with distributed IO.
• Program and integrate vision systems for inspection and measurement.
• Support prototype, new machine builds and existing equipment in the field.
• Ensure and oversee machine safety to relevant standards.
• Prepare support documentation for manufacturing, testing and customers.

• Identify opportunities for process, productivity and quality improvements.

Job Title: Controls Engineer

Shift: Day shift

Location: Gloucester

Salary £45,000 to £55,000 per annum + Excellent benefits package

A great role with a fast-growing, established manufacturing business based in Gloucester. They are looking for an outstanding Controls engineer to join their highly skilled team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities –Controls Engineer

To provide Controls System development and support of special purpose automated machinery supplied worldwide.

Duties – Controls Engineer

• Carry out a range of PLC, HMI and Motion Control programming and modification work.
• Carry out software & hardware configuration of networked control systems with distributed Input Output (IO).
• Carry out the programming and integration of vision systems for inspection & measurement using Cognex or similar products.
• Control system support of prototype, new machine builds and existing equipment in the field.
• Ensure and oversee machine safety to the relevant international standards and practices.
• Prepare support documentation to assist both machine manufacture, testing and customer documentation packages.
• Provide customer support and be prepared to travel on site as required.
• To identify opportunities for process, productivity and quality improvements.
• To actively participate in product development and improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements – Controls Engineer

• Qualified to HNC / HND or equivalent in a Software related discipline.
• Proven experience of PLC, HMI and motion programming preferably using
• Rockwell Logix platform, Safety PLC, Kinetix motion control, Studio 5000 and FTViewME. Siemens Control systems & TIA portal advantageous.
• Knowledge and programming of robotic applications (Yaskawa ).
• Knowledge of vision systems preferable
• Excellent communication skills, both written and orally.
• Self‑motivated and enthusiastic and able to communicate at all levels.
• Positive attitude with ability to work within culturally diverse environments.
• Helpful and supportive approach to resolution of technical challenges
• Receptive and adaptable to change.
• Able to travel internationally to customer sites.
