Job summary

General Mills Wellston, OH Plant is seeking a Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for electrical and controls systems across the site. You will collaborate with project engineers, electricians, and operations to design, implement, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications in line with GMI standards.

The role requires strong problem solving, code-level PLC troubleshooting, and experience with Allen-Bradley platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 3+ years of related experience in controls engineering.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.
• Ability to lead cross-functional projects and coordinate with contractors.

The Controls Engineer will provide technical leadership for electrical and controls systems for all areas of the Wellston Plant. This position requires considerable interaction with project engineers, systems engineers, electricians, plant floor personnel, leadership team, and external engineers and vendors.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESContribute to a safety culture that strives for zero injuries by proactively identifying and addressing physical/environmental/behavioral issues and implementing best practices for safety reliable control circuitsEnsure existing and new equipment and infrastructure meets applicable electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, etc.) and GMI Global CIS StandardsProvide tactical and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance in the area of controls and information systemsProvide strategic support for engineering, operations, and maintenance to drive out losses in the manufacturing process by leveraging existing and emerging control system technology and methodologiesImplementation of PLC and HMI hardware/software and manufacturing networks in accordance with GMI standardsBuild and maintain a strong working relationship with engineers, operations and maintenance leadership, controls techs, floor personnel, and external engineers/vendorsProvide technical coaching and development for controls teamManage electrical and controls architecture, including servers, PLC’s HMI’s, and VFD’sProvide input into the plants capital plan and proactively manage obsolescence of controls systemsSupport plant capital projects as a controls and electrical systems lead.Manage electrical/controls related capital projects as necessaryManage external integrators as necessaryMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Engineering from ABET- accredited program, Degrees preferred: Electrical or Controls Engineering3+ years of related experienceHardware application, programming and integration experience with the following:Wonderware Intouch, InSql, DAS, and System PlatformAB (Allen Bradley) Control Logix, PLC5, SLC; Panelviews; Panelview Plus’, InCuity, and RSLinxAB and Indramat Servo ControllersSerial, RIO, DH+, Ethernet, ControlNet and DeviceNet Communications o Knowledge of computers, servers and Windows Operating SystemsVFDs; Load Cells; Metering Feeders; Control Valves, Level, Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Position, Presence devices and other common field devicesAbility to interpret and apply the NEC, NFPA 70E, GMI Corporate and other standards to the plant equipment and projectsSolid experience in leading with Electrical Contractors and Third Party Controls Integrators as part of capital project initiativesExperience with Process Control, Packaging Control, Equipment Specification and Panel DesignProvide strategic support for engineering, operations, and maintenance to drive out losses in the manufacturing process by leveraging existing and emerging control system technology and methodologiesImplementation of PLC and HMI hardware/software and manufacturing networks in accordance with GMI standardsAbility to troubleshoot PLC’s at the code level and troubleshoot equipment and wiringGood problem solving and troubleshooting skillsCommitment to Continuous Improvement and use of the tools to drive improvementsAbility to train and pass skills on to others.Demonstrated strong communication abilities and interpersonal skillsHigh technical aptitude and learning agilityWilling to provide support off shift and/or on weekends to support 24 hour plant operations, as neededPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSUnderstanding of and experience with power distribution and associated equipment (24V, 120V, 208V, 230V, 240V, 277V, 480V, 4160V)AutoCAD experienceADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONSInternational relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.Applicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
