Job summary

Kocher + Beck USA seeks a Controls Engineer 1 to design and develop new automation and control systems for our Lenexa, KS facility. The role blends controls software with electrical design and hands-on system integration to improve safety and reliability of equipment.

Core hours are 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday, with 40+ hours weekly and overtime as needed. Occasional travel for training or installation may be required; hands-on work on the manufacturing floor is involved.

Qualifications

Experience programming PLCs and automation controls using Structured Text (ST) per IEC 61131-3.
Experience with Beckhoff controls or Siemens TIA Portal.
Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings; use AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
Comfort with hands-on installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to improve equipment performance.
Develop PLC and HMI programs for new machines.
Install, test, commission, and troubleshoot automated equipment.
Train operators and maintenance personnel on automated equipment.
Perform root-cause analysis and document changes in CMMS.
