Job summary

FMI seeks a proactive Controls Engineer to join the Equipment Optimization Team in Maine. You will lead automation projects, design new systems, and drive improvements in safety, quality, cost, uptime, and cycle time across production lines.

You will manage integration of new systems, support ongoing production, and collaborate with customers and partners to implement process changes and qualification activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years in automotive, food, or aerospace industry OR 5+ years automation experience.
  • Experience with high-rate automated production and PLC programming.
  • Experience with Control Systems and PLC hardware.
  • CAD software familiarity.
  • Familiarity with SDLC principles.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing.
  • Experience with industrial tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, improve, document, and troubleshoot custom built automation systems.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain policies and procedures for the technical work performed in a growing production facility.
  • Lead integration of new systems and automation equipment.
  • Identify, design, implement, test, and document code and control improvements in assigned areas using Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Execute technical assignments with ability to integrate systems adhering to schedule and cost constraints.
  • Work with internal/external customers to develop and qualify process changes and provide technical services.
  • Design and develop new equipment for future production systems.
  • Ensure that health and safety policies are integrated and followed.
  • Apply standards to projects to ensure compliance with certification requirements.
  • Collaborate with external designers, integrators and manufacturers.
  • Support equipment commissioning and qualification.
