Job summary

Quanex in Rice Lake, WI is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop, and implement control systems for manufacturing equipment onsite. The role focuses on PLC programming, HMI design, and electrical schematics to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety across operations.

Collaborating with production and maintenance teams, you will troubleshoot, document, and train personnel while driving continuous improvement and ensuring NEC/UL508 compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in control systems design and implementation, preferably in manufacturing.
• Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI design, and electrical schematic creation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control systems for manufacturing equipment, including PLC programming, HMI design, and electrical schematics.
• Implement and maintain control systems to meet operational requirements and safety standards.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve control system issues.
• Prepare documentation including specifications, drawings, and manuals for control systems.
• Provide technical support and training to maintenance and production personnel on control systems.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and equipment performance.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulations such as NEC and UL508.
• Manage project activities including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely completion.

Summary: The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of control systems for manufacturing processes and equipment. This role involves working with cross-functional teams to improve the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our manufacturing operations. The Controls Engineer will also support troubleshooting and maintenance activities, ensuring the optimal performance of control systems.

Your Credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in control systems design and implementation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI design, and electrical schematic creation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $75k - $113k with bonus potential.
