Job summary

Marquardt U.S. is seeking a Controls Engineer to join the Industrial Engineering department in Cazenovia, NY. You will design electrical systems for mechatronic controls, code PLC/HMI for new equipment, and support commissioning and documentation. Travel to domestic/international installations may be required.

The role emphasizes development of production lines, collaboration with multiple departments, and promotion of best practices across Marquardt facilities.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years relevant experience including college-level related coursework.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferred).
  • Ability to read / create electrical schematics.
  • Ability to measure signals in a control enclosure with a multimeter.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on complex equipment.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to participate in equipment installation and modification.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Knowledge of PLC (ladder logic) programming.
  • Experience with text, function-block diagram, or flowchart-based computer languages.
  • Experience with industrial robot programming or maintenance. Robot simulation software.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, NFPA, and IEC regulations.
  • Some travel may be required to support domestic or international equipment installations.

Responsibilities

  • Compose electrical schematics for new equipment based on specs / existing design templates.
  • Assist in assembling and oversight of electrical control enclosures to improve future designs.
  • Compose PLC and HMI programs for new equipment based on specs / existing design templates
  • Develop robot and electric actuator programs and templates for new equipment designs.
  • Update software change log and repository to capture issues and track progress.
  • Bring new equipment online and troubleshoot wiring and programming as required.
  • Perform product preproduction builds on the equipment and assist with training and transfer to production.
  • Compose equipment operating and troubleshooting documentation based on existing templates.
  • Participate in equipment design reviews and investigate technical problems; recommend corrective actions to avoid recurrence.
  • Contribute to equipment commissioning schedules and timelines.
  • Perform technical review of supplier documentation when equipment is provided by external resources.
  • Support standardization activities with other internal departments.
  • Work with other Marquardt facilities to promote best practices in controls design and programming.
  • Implement engineering changes and update all required documentation, software, etc. domestically and internationally.
  • Coordinate Maintenance department training and documentation.
  • Participate in programming and troubleshooting knowledge transfer to the Maintenance department so production can support the equipment where possible.
  • Prepare spare parts definitions and documentation.
  • Serve as primary technical resource for assigned equipment currently in production in order to improve on future design.

Job description

We are currently in search of a Controls Engineer to join our Industrial Engineering department of the Marquardt Group in our location Cazenovia (USA).

The Controls Engineer is responsible for creating electrical designs for mechatronic control systems and supporting PLC programing implementation of new and upgraded assembly and test equipment. This position is responsible for defining and implementing requirements from various sources such as internal and external customer specifications/expectations, overall system behavior, and developing documentation where requirements do not exist. This position will be responsible for control system design including electrical panel design and layout, bill of materials, preparing schematics for wiring, system specifications, simulation and testing, and start-up / commissioning assistance. Some PLC programming will be required.

Essential Responsibilities

The base pay range for this role is between $90,000 and $120,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
