Job summary

Fortune Brands is seeking a Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for Butler Manufacturing Operations. You will design, program and optimize control systems for automated machinery, driving reliability and a safety-focused culture across production lines.

The role requires 5+ years in controls engineering within manufacturing, with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley expertise and experience with Fanuc robotics. Strong project leadership and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Controls Engineering experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required; experience working for an equipment builder or integrator is a plus.
  • Expertise in Rockwell Automation software and Allen Bradley PLC systems; experience with Fanuc Robotics; ability to draft and interpret electrical schematics.

Responsibilities

  • System Development: Design and develop control systems for automated machinery, including electrical drawings and control specifications.
  • PLC Programming: Program and optimize control systems, primarily using Allen Bradley PLC platforms.
  • Maintenance Support: Provide technical leadership to maintenance to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Project Management: Lead capital projects, manage outside resources and vendors, oversee installation and startup of new equipment.
  • Process Improvement: Identify lean opportunities to improve equipment operating efficiency and ergonomics.
  • Equipment Protection and Safety: Make changes to control systems to improve reliability and safety, adhering to OSHA requirements.

Job Description

As a Controls Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and support for the Butler Manufacturing Operations. You are responsible for maintaining and optimizing control systems to ensure seamless production and peak system performance. You will act as a change agent, driving continuous improvement in equipment reliability and a safety-focused culture. The control engineer will be required to lead projects from concept through completion.

Responsibilities
  • System Development: Design and develop control systems for automated machinery, including creating electrical drawings and control specifications.
  • PLC Programming: Program and optimize control systems, primarily using Allen Bradley PLC platforms.
  • Maintenance Support: Provide technical expertise and leadership to maintenance associates to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Project Management: Lead capital projects, manage outside resources and vendors, and oversee the installation and startup of new equipment. Must have good teamwork and communication skills to smoothly implement key projects.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement lean opportunities to drive equipment operating efficiency and ergonomic improvements.
  • Equipment Protection and Safety: Make changes to equipment controls to improve reliability and safety. Good understanding of OSHA safety requirements.

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $70,000 USD - $110,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location.
