Responsibilities

• Support projects and key initiatives to ensure successful goal achievement.
• Collaborate on programming, simulation, testing, and startup of control systems.
• Read and interpret schematics; troubleshoot AC/DC circuits and network wiring.
• Modify and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs; coordinate with engineers and maintenance.
• Develop and improve control systems documentation following ISA standards.
• Adhere to BAF safety and production standards; perform required safety observations.

Job Summary

Basic American Foods (BAF) is seeking a Controls Engineer to support and enhance our process automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This position requires a professional with strong knowledge of controls engineering concepts, standards, and practices across BAF products and processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), HMI systems, industrial networks, and computer-controlled automation systems consistent with ISA-based control system practices. This role works cross-functionally to support capital projects, system improvements, and plant operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Support projects and key initiatives to ensure successful achievement of project goals. Communicate project status effectively to team members and stakeholders.

• Collaborate with controls team members on programming, simulation, testing, and start‑up of control systems, including instrumentation, MCCs, control panels, and industrial network devices.

• Read and interpret electrical wiring schematics and validate control panel layouts. Troubleshoot AC circuits, DC circuits, and industrial network wiring.

• Modify, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs while coordinating with Process Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, IT staff, and Production and Maintenance personnel.

• Develop and improve control systems documentation in alignment with established guidelines and ISA standards.

• Maintain a thorough understanding of and adhere to BAF's electrical, mechanical, and production process standards.

• Follow all local, state, and national safety regulations and company policies.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required
  OR

• Associate degree in Instrumentation and Controls with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience
  OR

• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Experience with:

  • FactoryTalk View SE/ME

  • Wonderware InTouch and Historian

  • RSLogix 5/500/5000

  • Studio 5000

  • Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Manufacturing plant environment

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

• Exposure to typical plant conditions including noise, machinery, and varying temperatures

Food & Workplace Safety

• Proactively ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Company safety regulations.

• Conduct regular behavior‑based safety observations and correct unsafe conditions promptly.

• Uphold the principles of SQF 2000.

• Immediately report any food safety, food quality, or plant security concerns to management.
