Amtec Staffing is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to support production and maintenance teams at Detroit Engine and Axle facilities. You will troubleshoot PLC/HMI systems, design control solutions, and maintain thorough documentation to uphold safety and performance.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical/Controls and 5–7 years in industrial automation, with Siemens PLC experience and knowledge of CAD tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or related field.
  • 5–7 years of controls engineering/industrial automation experience.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC and HMI programming.
  • Familiarity with Kuka positioning and CAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Direct production line support of controls logic with Siemens PLCs and NC programming.
  • Design and implement control systems for industrial equipment and automation processes.
  • Implement and support PLC, CNC & HMI hardware/software.
  • Configure sensors/actuators and integrate control devices.
  • Troubleshoot and debug to ensure proper functionality.
  • Collaborate with mechanical/electrical teams to integrate control solutions.
  • Maintain control system documentation and wiring diagrams.
  • Ensure safety standards and regulatory compliance in designs.
  • Provide technical training to maintenance/operations teams.

Pay Range: $50-59.95/HR based on experience

Schedule: Sunday- Friday 10pm-6am

2nd or 3rd weekend will be OT weekend support

Job Description Summary

The Controls Engineer position serves as a technical resource to both skilled trades and production departments. The controls engineer is a support function that addresses open issues on new and existing equipment, developing and implementing continuous improvement projects designed to achieve key performance Indicators (KPIs) and addressing daily performance issues. This position serves as a 2nd level emergency support to the emergency maintenance team for unplanned operation equipment stoppages and out-of-process conditions. This position participates in a cross-functional team to resolve highly technical equipment failures. Controls Engineers also work closely with equipment and robot logic to maintain production throughput of Detroit Engines and Axles.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Direct production line support of controls logic, PLC and NC programming in Siemens based hardware platform (60%)
  • Design and implement control systems for industrial equipment and automated processes.
  • Implement and support hardware and software for PLC, CNC & HMI controls
  • Configure and integrate sensors, actuators, and other control devices into systems.
  • Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and debugging to ensure proper functionality.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to integrate control solutions.
  • Maintain documentation for control systems, including wiring diagrams and program logic.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in all control designs.
  • Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations teams.
Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens or similar platforms).
  • Experience with HMI systems and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics, instrumentation, and control theory.
  • Experience/willingness to move and modify Kuka positions when required
  • Familiarity with industrial automation standards and safety regulations.
  • Previous experience with troubleshooting and maintaining automated systems.
  • Proficient with PC hardware and commercially available software
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in controls engineering or industrial automation (internship experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of CAD software and Microsoft Office applications is a plus.
