Job summary

General Motors in Ohio is seeking an Electrical/Controls Engineer to analyze, troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems in our manufacturing operations. You will design and modify control circuits and programs, and lead cross-functional problem solving on complex processes.

This 2nd shift role requires PLC/HMI programming, servo and VFD troubleshooting, robotics knowledge, and strong analytical and communication skills to drive continuous improvement and safety in our plant.

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical/computer engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in PLC and HMI programming.
  • Troubleshooting servo and VFD systems.
  • Experience with robotics is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems in manufacturing operations.
  • Design and modify electrical control circuits and programs.
  • Lead technical problem solving with cross-functional teams to drive improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and support production equipment malfunctions.
  • Oversee electrical project installations and contractor work.
  • Collaborate across levels to manage multiple projects with autonomy.

Job DescriptionWhat You'll Do (Responsibilities):Analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical problems in manufacturing operation.Design and modify electrical control circuits and programsPerform a wide range of engineering tasks on robotic systems using engineering software and hardware.Lead technical problem solving / work with cross functional team to drive continuous improvement in our manufacturing process.Troubleshoot Industrial Vision Systems (Keyence, PhotoNeo, Matrox…)Support existing production through support troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, etc.Support the TIP (Throughput Improvement process) & Continuous Improvement initiativesImplement new technology as required to improve our manufacturing processes.Make contributions to the resolution of complex manufacturing problemsSupport and/or train skilled electriciansMaintain electrical equipmentOversee project installations by contractors and plant electriciansDevelop and plan electrical projectsCollaborate with individuals at all organizational levels in a team environment, while managing multiple complex projects and assignmentsWork with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results.Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent technical experience3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment3+ years of Industrial Control System experienceProficient in PLC and HMI ProgrammingTroubleshooting of Servo, and VFD SystemsStrong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills used to build effective relationships with team members and stakeholdersThis is a 2nd shift role - Must be willing to work off shifts and overtime as needed.What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Troubleshooting of RoboticsKnowledge of CNC codeExposure to Siemens, Allen-Bradley Rockwell, and Fanuc PLCKnowledge of Industrial Vision Systems (Keyence, PhotoNeo, Matrox…)Experience with Safety PLCKnowledge of GM Global Common Controls ArchitectureKnowledge of high voltage power distributionStrong work ethic as a self-starterTaking responsibility to follow through on assignments, proactively seeking opportunities to improve outcomes and support others beyond assigned tasks.GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
