West Michigan Instrumentation Systems, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program and commission PLC/SCADA systems for municipal and industrial water projects in Nunica, Michigan.

The role focuses on Allen Bradley PLCs (RSLogix 500/5000), WonderWare/AVEVA, PanelView Plus and C-MORE, with occasional site travel to install and start-up equipment. Full-time, hours 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, pay $40–$45 per hour, with benefits including SIMPLE IRA, employer matching, health insurance and paid time

Job description

West Michigan Instrumentation Systems, Inc. and Alpha-Tran Engineering Co, together have been a leader since 1967 in the design, manufacture and implementation of custom process control systems for the municipal and industrial water and wastewater industries. This essential work has been further bolstered by the newly passed Federal Infrastructure program, which will continue to have a positive impact on various community water improvements throughout the state of Michigan in the years ahead.

The Position:

Currently we are seeking an intelligent, self-motivated and hardworking Controls Engineer for PLC and SCADA design and integration. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, and a desire to work with a team. This person will need to be a self-starter, reliable, demonstrate a desire to learn, and be capable of adapting quickly across job functions and responsibilities. Primary duties will be PLC programming in Allen Bradley platforms (RSLogix 500, 5000), SCADA work with WonderWare (AVEVA) and HMI programming with PanelView Plus and C-MORE. Additional troubleshooting support will also be required to meet customer criteria. The candidate will work with customers directly, to identify desired control functionality and then to deliver such programming. This would include designing, planning, managing, installing, performing start-up, commissioning and related documentation of such automation and control systems.

Qualifications/Required Experience:

To be successful in this role, the qualified applicant will have:

• At least 5 years experience in electrical engineering or other related field, familiarity with electrical diagnostic equipment, knowledge of relay design standards, excellent root cause analysis skills, and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Previous experience managing projects is desired.
• Position requires strong technical ability and knowledge of good software engineering practices and standards, or a background with systems controls.
• 5 years of programming experience with Allen Bradley PLC's and HMI’s, Rockwell RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000 and Auto CAD, process controls (PID), as well as PLC Ladder Logic programming is considered a plus.
• Preference will be given to candidates with additional experience in WonderWare/AVEVA software.
• A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the position.
• The ideal candidate must possess considerable computer literacy, be able to work independently and take on a leadership role, be self-motivated and highly organized, and able to manage one’s own time effectively.

Work Setting:

Generally indoor, environmentally controlled. Some outdoor job site travel may be required.

Hours are 8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday – Friday, primarily in our Nunica, MI location. Although there is some travel required from time to time, it is generally performed during the normal workday, with very rare overnight travel.
