Job summary

Molex seeks a Controls Engineer to deploy, startup, and optimize advanced automation systems at our Naperville, IL facility. You will partner with internal engineering teams, external integrators, suppliers, and customers to deliver safe, reliable manufacturing equipment.

You will help commission new automation, support operational excellence, and drive continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations, with travel up to 20% annually.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical/Controls/Mechatronics engineering or equivalent controls automation experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of controls automation experience.
  • Experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT and/or Omron PLC platforms.
  • Experience with machine vision systems (Keyence and/or Cognex).
  • Experience with industrial robot programming (Fanuc and/or Epson).
  • Experience implementing machine safety systems and safety PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Define automation requirements with Product, MIE, Process Engineering to ensure successful implementation of new systems.
  • Serve as controls SME for PLCs, vision, robotics, and motion control.
  • Support installation, debugging, startup, qualification, and handoff of new automation systems to manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical support to operators, technicians, and engineers to optimize equipment performance.
  • Identify and implement automation improvements to enhance safety, quality, cycle time, yield, and uptime.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and integration partners onsite and remotely for tailored automation solutions.
  • Travel up to 20% annually for FAT and implementation activities.

Your Job

Molex is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the deployment, startup, and optimization of advanced automation systems at our Naperville, Illinois facility. In this role, you will partner with internal engineering teams, external integrators, suppliers, and customers to deliver safe, reliable, and easy-to-operate manufacturing equipment. You will play a key role in commissioning new automation, supporting operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations.

Our Team

The Printed Circuit Solutions Manufacturing Integration Engineering (PCS MIE) team partners with Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to develop and deploy innovative automation solutions that create value for our customers and improve manufacturing performance. This team supports both new equipment introductions and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

What You Will Do
  • Partner with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Integration Engineering, and Process Engineering teams to define automation requirements and ensure successful implementation of new systems.
  • Serve as a controls subject matter expert for new automation systems, including PLCs, machine vision, robotics, and motion control technologies.
  • Support installation, debugging, startup, qualification, and handoff of new automation systems to manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to operators, technicians, and engineers to optimize equipment performance.
  • Identify and implement automation improvements that enhance safety, quality, cycle time, yield, and equipment uptime.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and integration partners both onsite and remotely to develop tailored automation solutions.
  • Travel up to 20% annually to support equipment debug activities, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and implementation projects.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent controls automation experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of controls automation experience.
  • Experience using Beckhoff TwinCAT and/or Omron PLC platforms.
  • Experience with industrial machine vision systems such as Keyence and/or Cognex.
  • Experience with industrial robot programming, including Fanuc and/or Epson platforms.
  • Experience implementing machine safety systems, safety PLCs, and safeguarding solutions.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five (5) or more years of controls automation experience.
  • Experience with Mitsubishi and Allen-Bradley PLC systems.
  • Experience programming HMIs, including ProFace, EasyBuilder Pro, and Beckhoff platforms.
  • Experience with Epson, Fanuc, and EasyVision vision programming.
  • Experience developing multi-axis coordinated motion control systems, including servo tuning, electronic gearing, cam profiles, and synchronized motion.
  • Experience in C#, VBA, and/or Python programming.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Foreign language capability in Mandarin and/or Spanish.

For this role, we anticipate paying $90,000- $130,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
