Controls Engineer

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to join an engineering team responsible for PLC/HMI programming, system development, startup, and troubleshooting of industrial automation systems. This is a hands‑on role for an engineer who enjoys working across design, programming, commissioning, and field support.
Responsibilities
- The Controls Engineer will develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs.
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Develop control narratives and I/O lists from P&IDs.
- Review customer system specifications and develop project requirements.
- Work closely with field service teams to provide programming and technical support.
- Assist with customer training and onsite startup activities.
- Manage assigned projects while working within established budgets and timelines.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and meet project deadlines.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of PLC/HMI programming experience.
- Experience with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley controls; Siemens experience is highly preferred.
- Associate degree/certificate in Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field; Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with engineering and field service teams.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%, primarily for startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support.
Physical Requirements
This is a hands‑on engineering position that may require:
- Climbing and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and industrial equipment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Working around industrial machinery and equipment.
- Occasionally working in high-temperature environments, including temperatures exceeding 100°F for extended periods.
