Job Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating complex automation projects to ensure the seamless integration of control systems from design through commissioning. This role involves collaborating with clients to define project objectives, managing cross-functional teams, and overseeing the installation and startup of control systems to meet customer specifications and performance standards.

Job Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating complex automation projects to ensure the seamless integration of control systems from design through commissioning. This role involves collaborating with clients to define project objectives, managing cross-functional teams, and overseeing the installation and startup of control systems to meet customer specifications and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • System Design & Documentation: Create comprehensive electrical system designs, including schematics, control panel layouts, HMI and junction box layouts, bill of materials (BOM), interconnection diagrams, wire schedules, and conduit plans.
  • Project Planning & Coordination: Develop detailed project specifications and scopes of work. Plan and implement PLC, HMI, and other necessary programming. Coordinate with contractors and customers to oversee and assist with control system installations.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Debug and test control systems to ensure they meet customer requirements and performance standards. Oversee system startup and provide end-user training.
  • Budget & Schedule Management: Monitor project costs to ensure adherence to budget. Present scope changes to customers and manage the approval, implementation, and billing processes.
  • Vendor & Supplier Coordination: Manage relationships with equipment vendors, suppliers, and construction trades to ensure timely delivery and quality of materials and services.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC programming
  • Experience in design engineering using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Familiarity with Wonderware software.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems development and commissioning.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation hardware and software.
  • Strong understanding of industrial controls, communications networks, and instrumentation.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, and motion control programming.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with servo and motion control systems.

Work Environment

The role requires approximately 25% to 30% domestic travel annually, primarily within the continental United States.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $50.00/hr.
