Job summary

Linde Advanced Material Technologies Inc. in Indianapolis, IN, is seeking an entry-level Automation Engineer to support industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, and servo controls.

You will troubleshoot controls and electrical issues to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. The role also involves commissioning, validation, and startup of new or upgraded equipment, supporting automation projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Automation engineering or related technical discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or manufacturing environments (internships/co-ops acceptable).
  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming, HMI systems, industrial controls, or automation technologies.
  • Exposure to Studio 5000 or similar tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, instrumentation, and industrial networks is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and communicate effectively.
  • Basic understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Support industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics, and servo controls.
  • Troubleshoot controls and electrical issues to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Assist with commissioning, validation, and startup of new or upgraded manufacturing equipment.
  • Support automation projects, controls upgrades, and equipment integration initiatives.
  • Analyze production performance and downtime data to identify process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve production challenges.
  • Maintain control system documentation, programming updates, and standard operating procedures.
  • Learn and apply Lean Production principles such as waste reduction and standardized work.

  • Exposure to Allen-Bradley/Rockwell platforms, Studio 5000, or similar tools preferred
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, instrumentation, and industrial communication networks is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a hands‑on manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and communicate effectively across functions
  • Basic understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement concepts preferred
  • Self‑motivated with a strong desire to develop technical and professional skills
  • Fundamental understanding of robotics with ABB Robotics Systems experience preferred
