Job summary

Fives Cincinnati is seeking a Software Engineer to design, support, and maintain the control software for our composite laying equipment, including gantry robots and peripheral systems.

You'll work with Siemens CNC platforms (Sinumerik One & 840D), use TIA Portal/Step 7, and develop in C/C++/VB.NET as part of a collaborative engineering team on-site in Hebron, KY. Travel is expected to be under 10% and the company emphasizes teamwork and quality software processes.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (Electrical or Computer) or CS; relevant years of experience may replace degree.
• Preferably 5+ years of relevant controls and software programming experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency status (green card).
• Travel will be less than 10%.

Responsibilities

• Design, support, and maintain the control software of composite laying equipment.
• Target code to run on Siemens Operate platforms such as Sinumerik One & 840D.
• Use TIA Portal or Step 7 development environments for CNC integration.
• Manage code and versioning with Mercurial and Git.
• Plan for C# and/or Indusoft development for HMIs.
• Utilize OPC-UA, Access Databases, and Modbus-TCP on various applications.
• Troubleshoot electro-mechanical and software issues.

Scope and Responsibilities:

The position is for a Software Engineer at Fives Cincinnati. This person will have the responsibilities of designing, supporting, and maintaining the control software of our composite laying equipment, which utilize gantry and robotic manipulators, and their peripheral equipment.

Description of Typical Duties:

• Target code to run on Siemens Operate platforms such as Sinumerik One & 840D
• Use TIA Portal or Step 7 development environments for CNC integration
• Target code to run on Windows and Intime RTOS
• Manage source controlled with Mercurial and Git .
• Plans for C# and/or Indusoft development for future HMIs.
• Utilize OPC-UA, Access Databases, and Modbus-TCP on various applications.
• Focus on continuously improving and optimizing system performance and increasing control system functionality and capability.
• Troubleshoot electro-mechanical and software issues.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Work well in a team and with minimal supervision.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experiene writing and maintaining code in VB.NET WinForms, C, C++, and many IEC 61131-3 PLC languages
• Experience with multi axis servo systems design, motion control systems, and robotic interfaces.
• Experience with sensor interfaces, IO, fieldbus, and related technology.
• Experience with integrating machine safety systems within software applications.
• Experience with software quality systems/processes.
• Education: BS in Engineering (preferably Electrical or Computer) or Computer Science.
• Relevant years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Preferably 5 or more years of relevant controls and software programming experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency status (green card).
• Travel will be less than 10%.
• Pay is commensurate with level of relevant experience.
