Job summary

Velocity Dynamics, LLC is seeking a Controls Engineer in Grain Valley, MO to design control panels and develop PLC programs for municipal and industrial applications. You will work with the Engineering team, prepare drawings, and ensure compliance with codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience in a technical role.
  • PLC and HMI programming experience.
  • Submittal and project specification review experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with others with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.

Responsibilities

  • Design control panels and schematics, and perform load calculations.
  • Write PLC programs and process control narratives.
  • Troubleshoot field-related electrical issues on projects.
  • Create BOMs, part numbers, and ERP records.
  • Review project specs and annotate deviations with explanations.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturing for fabrication updates.
  • Support submittal processes and customer design meetings.
  • Test, debug, and validate PLC code on equipment at FAT and site.

Job description

The Company is seeking a Controls Engineer at its Grain Valley, Missouri location. This position will report to the Operations Manager and will support the brand’s continued growth and development in the municipal & industrial markets. This position will be responsible for performing electrical engineering duties, such as control panel design, equipment specification, load calculations, circuit design, and PLC programming. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a team-centric personality, strong communication skills, and experience in electrical engineering and control panel design.

Essential Job Functions
  • Work directly with the Engineering team and Project Managers to provide engineering design support to meet customer needs and design specifications within budgetary constraints.
  • Provide technical support for all product lines offered.
  • Manage standard drawing libraries for control panels and schematics.
  • Generate control panel assembly and P&ID drawings from electrical schematics for standard and custom control panels.
  • Create custom assemblies for deviations from standard product line.
  • Assist with writing detailed work instructions for manufacturing assembly and testing processes.
  • Create part numbers and bills of materials for standard products and systems in both ERP and AutoCAD software systems.
  • Create product datasheets for parts for submission to customer approval through the submittal approval process.
  • Work with the manufacturing department on all product lines to incorporate redlines and updates.
  • Communicate with vendors to provide clarification and details for fabrication.
  • Design control panel including layouts, schematics, load calculations, and panel schedules.
  • Review project specifications as they pertain to electrical and control panel design, including the ability to annotate customer specifications outlining deviations between customer specifications and proposed product with detailed explanations.
  • Assist with project submittal processes and meet with customers to resolve design issues.
  • Write PLC programs and process control narratives for projects deviating from standard products.
  • Troubleshoot field-related service issues for electrical systems.
  • Determine proper parameter settings for various electrical components such as VFDs, voltage monitors, and sensor transmitters.
  • Fully test, debug, and troubleshoot PLC code for a fully functional unit per approved design on equipment during both factory acceptance testing as well as installed at customer sites as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 3 - 5 years’ engineering experience in a technical role or similar field.
  • PLC & HMI Programming experience (VisiLogic, FactoryTalk, RSLogix 500, EcoStruxure Control Expert, and others).
  • Submittal and project specification review experience.
  • Knowledge of all related current codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work well with others with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent technical writing skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Allen Bradley products;
  • Experience with Idec products;
  • Experience with Schneider products;
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience with Sharepoint, Microsoft 365 Suite.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, speak and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate the equipment and tools required for this position.
  • Must be able to quickly respond (with the hand, finger or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance while working with customers, vendors and colleagues.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.
  • 90% Office Setting.
  • 10 % Light Industrial - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, airborne and/or hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

This is an exempt position. Compensation is dependent on skill level. The base salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $100,000 per year.Benefitspackage and incentives are provided. Wegenerally offeremployees working 21 hours per work or more medical, dental, vision, along with voluntary ancillary benefits. The Company has a 401(k)-match program and has company-paid life and AD&D insurance available for eligible employees.
