As a Controls Engineer, you will play a vital role in enhancing, maintaining, and refining the automation and control systems across our manufacturing site. Your time will be split evenly between technical project engineering and direct production floor support, specifically focusing on Allen-Bradley and Rockwell automation hardware and software.
Automation and Control Systems
- Utilize Studio 5000 and RSLogix to develop, refine, and repair Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC systems.
- Create and debug ladder logic, servo setups, motors, drives, HMIs, and VFDs to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Perform comprehensive root cause analysis to resolve technical issues and minimize production downtime.
- Provide technical support for material handling, packaging, slitting, and coil coating machinery to keep operations running smoothly.
Engineering Projects and Optimization
- Contribute to the success of equipment retrofits, system upgrades, and various automation enhancement initiatives.
- Help oversee the installation, commissioning, and launch of new production machinery.
- Identify and resolve communication issues across industrial networks like EtherNet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, and Modbus.
- Ensure that electrical schematics, controls documentation, and system backups are kept current and organized.
- Collaborate effectively with system integrators, OEMs, production teams, and engineering staff to drive collective goals.
Required Skills and Experience
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in automation or industrial controls.
- Proven expertise in the hands-on programming and diagnostic repair of Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs.
- Proficiency in working with ladder logic, VFDs, HMIs, and the Studio 5000/RSLogix software suite.
- Strong ability to interpret electrical diagrams and diagnose faults in automated manufacturing systems.
- Familiarity with FactoryTalk, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PowerFlex, PanelView, and system commissioning processes is highly valued.
Environment and Expectations
- The schedule is balanced between office-based project management and hands-on floor support.
- Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with minimal overtime requirements.
- Work takes place in a manufacturing setting where the use of mandated safety equipment is required.
- Availability for occasional travel to support our West Virginia facility is expected.
